Excerpts From Sketches On My Heart

Christina’s Creed:

Rock stone has been my pillow

I have seen the dark side and the light

I’ve walked with prince and princess

My tresses have laid on beds of feather

Soft as cotton candy floating on the willows

This life in all it stages

Has been my prepared phases.

The Witness:

Cold, clammy palms wiped repeatedly ,

Feverishly against bruised calico pants

Seams straight like an arrow

Not enough to straighten brows that furrow.

Shoes shine like a new dollar piece

Masking old scars and gorged out fleece ,

Teeth bared in a wide innocent grin ,

Camouflaged for the tight pinch.

The Great Pretender:

We hide our pain and our fears

Behind bright smiles;

all giggling games

It’s the price we pay for seeking fame
